Mario Kart

There are a lot of great SNES games out there, but in terms of sheer enjoyment and re-playability (for me and GoldenEye aside) Mario Kart still holds a special place in my heart. Whether you enjoyed the torment of Rainbow Road, the elaborate Ghost Houses or my personal favorite the beach courses, you undoubtedly could pick up a controller right now and put on a clinic and I think that is why this game stands the test of time. Not only was the game easy to get the "feel" for, but it was fun  and enjoyable as well. Sure there were times when I'd rather drive a rusty nail through my balls than replay Rainbow Road, but nevertheless I always came back for more.

In regards to the mechanics of Mario Kart, what can I say, the game-play was easy to get the hang of and the characters, environments and graphics were all faithful to our favorite Mario games of years/consoles passed (I would have liked to see more Mario 2 paraphernalia though). I still think the music could have been polished up a bit, but it is still solid (although Rainbow Road sounds like the credits in an 80's Eddie Murphy movie). Although I'm sure many of you might have a few gripes with this game, I have to say that it was and is still one of my faves.

I did want to take a minute and talk about the difficulty of this game. We are all familiar with the different CC classes and Cups, but a complaint I've heard time and time again is that the difficulty level was either too hard or too easy. Personally, I have always felt like if you can't handle Mario Kart then there is probably a jar of paste in the corner with your name on it (think Ralph Wiggum). So yeah, lets put that one to rest.

Other than that, I wanted to give props to my favorite racer Toad. Sure he isn't too flashy and looks somewhat phallic, but hey he's my guy. I could never get into using any other characters in this game. Anyway, Mario Kart is a great game and should have a home somewhere near your console at all times. If you haven't got yourself a copy, pony up the bucks and get one.

Here is a clip from our friends at VGgameplay featuring PrinceScyther attempting Special Cup!

Hey there. I'm with you on this one. It's classic that was so easy to pick up and play. But if you wanted to win in the 150CC class, then you needed practice to know what you were doing. As for Toad, I dare not play that game with any other player. The dude could burn rubber and managed the turns waaaay easier than many of the other characters. Later.

Hey Metallman,

Can't argue with that one. I did use Koopa Troopa from time to time, but I always found my way back to Toad. Good stuff!

Thanks for stopping in!

I like Toad too, he wasn't the greatest but he was smooth with those sharp turns :)

Phallic or not, I'm with you, Toad was my go to guy. Failing that, Koopa, who I think was exactly the same in stats. This game is STILL hours of fun, it's too classic.

By the way, welcome back, it's been nearly a month since your last post.

I was always using Princess Peach (though I think she was still Princess Toadstool then).

Masculinity be damned.

Hey Lam and MadebyKaroline,

Toad was the s@3t when it came to Mario Kart, and Koopa Troopa was a solid backup. As for my lack of posts, it has been a crazy year thus far, I just really began rolling with my home business and am also working FT at the local Lowe's, so it has been difficult for gaming and writing. I really appreciate you guys sticking with me. I hope to be more proactive with my posting on this site and others in the coming months.

VG Addict, I won't hold the fact you use the princess against you. She was fast, but just too much to handle on some tracks. What was the deal with the name change anyway?

I LOVE Mario Kart. Mmmm....

I always seemed to use Yoshi, but admit Toad was awesome.

Hey Jae,

One of my best friends back in middle school used to only use Yoshi or Luigi. I tried to use them, but the cornering was just too much for me. Then again, in the vs/battle mode any character is fun!

Thanks for stopping in!
